      • I am sure…
By the way, I read an article that many temples in Japan are closing, because many Japanese are moving away from God. So, some temples are trying to attract people in innovative ways. Is this true?

        • When it comes to organised religion, I think Japanese (generally speaking) are not religious at all. Many may visit shrines to celebrate the New Year, for example, but it doesn’t mean they are earnest believers of that particular religion. Therefore, it’s not unusual to see non-religious people having “Christian” or “Shinto” weddings. I haven’t heard of any specific news of temples trying to attract people in innovative ways, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was true 🙂

    • Thank you Inger. It’s such a nice feeling to know others enjoy some of my photos. I waited for many hours to try and photograph this moment. It was definitely worth the wait, all the more so since you liked it 🙂

  1. Looking at your photos reminds me how much I miss photographing animals. Once I finish dealing with the chores of moving I’ll need to spread my wings and start exploring the local zoos before Winter sets in.

    • Hello Bob,
Thank you so much for your comment. And apologies for my late reply.
As always, I’ve following your photo adventures, and glad to see things seem to be settling down nicely. I am enjoying to see the beautiful fall foliage of New England, as well as glimpses of your new home through your lens. Naturally, I’ll eagerly look forward to seeing your new zoo photos once you get around to it 🙂

      Warm wishes,
      Takami

        • Thank you for the link to the Southwick Zoo! It’s too bad the zoo is already closed for the season, but I’m glad they are putting the animals’ needs first. And of course, the staff deserve a break too. Like Oregon, the zoos in the Tokyo/surrounding areas are usually open all year round, probably because winters in this area are not too extreme.

      • I just checked their website and discovered they close for the Winter on November 01. I’ll need to wait until next Spring to check them out. Portland, OR, with its mild Winters, doesn’t close during the Winter months.

  2. Oh, these photographs are so, so sweet, Takami! Mama is so beautiful. I love her plumage. Do you know what kind of a duck she is? And the little ducklings are so adorable—they melt my heart. I love the way they can all tuck themselves under Mama. :)) Thank you, for this beautiful and heartwarming post. Welcome back, my friend. Sending you and your husband many warm wishes. :))

    • Hello dear Jeannie ❤
Thank *you* so much for your kind words. And apologies for my late reply. To answer your question, they are Mandarin Ducks (and ducklings). I also loved how all the little ones rushed in to tuck themselves under Mama. And they somehow managed to all fit in! After "tucking themselves in" they all had a 30 minute or so sleep time. It really was a privilege to observe this moment, and the fact that Mama didn't seem to mind my presence was a real honour!

    • Thank you Noelle ❤ There were quite a few ducklings trying to crawl under Mum, I don't know how she managed to do it, but eventually, they did all fit 🙂 And had a nice long nap together 🙂 So happy you liked this little series!
