Outstanding set-off of colours!
Thank you!
I too, enjoyed seeing the contrast of the bright blue of the kingfisher against the subdued tanned coloring of the reed field.
Beautiful photograph, Takami! ❤ Hope the little guy has enough food to survive the winter. I saw a Kingfisher in January. I noticed a little dot from afar, but didn't think about grabbing my camera. I just watched him approaching fast, making a sharp turn and crossing the river. For a second, there was a flash of blue, and then he disappeared in the bush. It was enough to make me happy for the rest of the day 🙂
Thank you Inese!
This little guy is doing quite well, and has found a partner too! I am so lucky they have chosen this marsh/reed field as their home. Hopefully they will be raising babies over the next few months.
I agree, to even catch a brief glimpse of these beautiful birds can brighten an entire day 🙂 😀
Such a gem!
Thank you 🙂
So beautiful! I showed many of your blogs to my husband who is a dedicated naturalist and specializes in birds.

Hello Noelle,
Thank you so much! I’m very happy you like the photo. It’s such a treat to see a splash of beautiful color against a fuller background. I’m lucky that this little guy is my neighbor.
I hope the year is off to a great start for you and your family😊
So far so good, but I’m working sooo hard between taking a Gaelic class this semester and tryng to get my new book off the ground. And a grandbaby arrives next month! Where did retirement go?
How nice that you did find it! I love your photo. Thank you.
Have a good day!
Thank you, Matti-san!
I was very happy to find this beautiful bird. Thank you for your warm comment😊
It is indeed a winter gem. Love the contrasting colours, Takami.
Thank you Jolandi. It means a lot to me, that you liked this little guy. He is pretty amazing and brightens the dull winter months. As always we hope you and husband are doing well. Take care my friend❤️

That is a lovely little fella.
Excellent photo.
Thank you very much. I am glad you like it, he is indeed a very handsome fellow.
So sweet!
Thank you! This kingfisher was a splash of color in a “sea” of brown colored reeds 🙂
I like how tiny but bright the kingfisher is with the backdrop of reeds.🙂
higing every so small in the tall grass
Yes, he was very well-hidden in the reed field. It was lovely to get a glimpse of this kingfisher.
A welcome splash of color in the monochromatic winter landscape, Takami. You must have been elated to detect and capture it.
“Monochromatic winter landscape” – I love how you expressed it! Yes, most of the surrounding colors appear bleak in the midst of a long winter, so it was a very happy moment indeed. I happened to glimpse this jewel while out for a morning jog and immediately dashed back home to grab my camera 🙂
I’m glad it waited for your return, Takami. How very accommodating. 🙂
It’s a wonderful photo. Congratutations.
Thank you very much! I am happy you enjoyed the photo.
A little beauty!
Thank you Belinda! He is very beautiful indeed 🙂
Great sense of scale giving context to the tiny gem of a bird. The photo really does draw one in.
Thank you Carol. It is as you say, he appeared quite literally to be a small speck of color against the winter reed field. I was very happy to “spot” this bird and admire him for a few minutes 🙂
So very beautiful.
Thank you so much Mr. Nico. Blessings to you and your family.
Blessings! 🙂
Beautiful!

Thank you Donna. It was a treat to spot this fellow in the reeds. What made it extra special is that he is a regular visit to my neighborhood 🙂
A lovely capture indeed a gem!
Thank you Brian! It is always exciting to get a glimpse of the kingfisher. Especially during the cold winter months 🙂
So very beautiful, my sweet friend.
Thank you always, my friend. Kingfishers are such beautiful bird, and I am lucky that he is a neighbor.

A special shot
Thank you Derrick.
I felt it to be a special moment, and am glad you agree. Something about this fellow reminds me of Nugget.
🙂
Alone among the reeds, a solitary moment. Quiet, yet speaking volumes. A winter gem, indeed.
Thank you Peter. I was out for my early morning jog, saw a a flash of blue, and immediately made a dash back home for the camera. Seeing this small burst of color in the reed field was a real treat.
Bellissima.
