Beautiful shot!
Thank you 😊
Beautiful image of the kingfisher, Takami. Love how its orange body is so striking. I agree with what Randall said, that the kingfisher bird can be like a guide for us moving forward. Hope things have been going well for you. Bit late but never really late – Happy New Year and Happy Lunar New Year to you too. Wishing you and your family all the best this year 🙂
Hello Mabel, thanks much as always for your thoughtful comments. I am delighted that you enjoyed spending a few moments with our local Kingfisher. Although it is often referred to as a “blue bird” due to the striking cobalt blue colors of its rear feathers, the belly is a bright orange color, as you have already noticed 🙂
Thank you for your warm wishes. Although the COVID situation continues to present many challenges in Japan, I am grateful to be healthy, and continue to keep hope that things will improve for us all. I hope you are doing well, and that you continue to take good care❤️
That’s beautiful!
Thank you! Much appreciated😊
You’re welcome!
Wow, Takami, this is such a great, crisp shot. The Kingfisher is for me of one of the more regal bird, beautiful and a perfect guide for us in this new year of beginning 🙂 I’m optimistic it’ll be a good year for us. Take care ~
Hello Randall, as always thank you so much for your generous praise. I completely agree, the Kingfisher is one of the more regal birds and I always feel more optimistic when I can glimpse one. As you say, they are like perfect guides. I too, keep hope that this year will be a much better one for all of us.
I like how you say you always feel more optimistic when you see one ~ I think these are the moments that make nature and our natural surrounding so valuable, it makes us feel stronger and fills us up with hope which is always a good thing 🙂 It is also blogs and post like this which really do reflect the great world and life we live in. Cheers to a great weekend ahead!
Thank you my friend. My husband and I look forward to the day you can visit Japan again 🙂
Wonderful….In my country we call it: “Martin pescador”. “Martin” comes from Marte (roman god Mars) and “pescador” means fisherman. What is it called in your country? Best regards.
Thank you very much for your comment! And for telling me the name of this Kingfisher in your country. Martin pescador is a beautiful name.
In Japan, we call this bird “kawasemi” (カワセミ) 🙂 As you say, this little bird is a skilled fisherman.
So Cute
Thank you 🙂

A happy and blessed new year to you both from my wife and I Takami. We love your Kingfisher, what is this species called ? Kingfishers are such brilliant and beautiful birds, especially when in flight.
Hello Ash,
Thank you for your warm new year wishes. My husband and I wish a blessed year ahead for you and your wife too. We are delighted you enjoy our local kingfisher. This species is called “kawasemi” カワセミ in Japanese, and “Common Kingfisher” in English:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_kingfisher
In our humble opinion, there is nothing “common” about this lovely bird’s beauty 🙂 As you say, all Kingfishers are such brilliant birds, especially in flight, and it’s always a joy to catch a glimpse of one.
Happy New Year! I pray you are well.
