Love the contrast between the green background and the red and black foreground. The big and little grebes look like they are going about their family day 🙂

It is very nice to see so many animal babies this year, Takami. Just today I found a nest occupied by phoebes for the second time this summer.

Vier kleine snaveltjes … , papa Dodaar heeft `t druk … Tante Friet uit Amsterdam heeft het voor jullie allemaal eventje na gekeken. Het zijn Dodaars (Tachybaptus ruficollis) en zijn verwant aan de Futen. Het is de kleinste Europese Fuut en ze leggen meestal twee keer jaar op een drijvend nest. They were quite a large “little” family. It really was a treat and privilege to spend sometime with them. Mama and Papa Grebe looked especially striking (and a bit tired at times) and often called out to each other with that distinct, striking call 🙂

These water birds are カイツブリ (“little grebes”) This specific kind is often found in Japan and Australia, and Asia.
