    • Hello Jolandi,
Thank you so much for your visit and comment. Apologies for my late reply – I’ve been away from the internet for some days.
I am happy you enjoyed a moment with this lovely shore bird. Black-winged Stilts were very rare in Japan, but they have been making appearances regularly.
Wishing you both continued health, love and happiness in 2020❤️

Black-winged Stilts are pretty rare birds in Japan, so it’s always a real pleasure to view them. I am in awe of their balance and beautiful long, pink legs 🙂
Wishing you and your family a very blessed and Happy New Year.

    • Hello Carol,
Thank you very, very much for your kind blessings. It means so much to us.
Admittedly, last year was quite a challenging one, but hubby and I are grateful to come out of it stronger, (hopefully!) wiser, and with renewed hope and strength for 2020.
We wish you and your family a blessed and healthy, happy 2020.

    • Hello Peter,
Thank you so much for your warm wishes.
Hubby and I try to stay away from the “holiday craziness” and appreciate peace and quiet during the winter holidays. I can imagine you feel the same way 🙂
That being said, we wish you continued health and happiness in the coming year. I hope to make some good crow photos this year 🙂

      All best,
      Takami

    • Hello Mr. David,
Thank you so much for your comment and observation.
I also loved how the ripples seemed to ‘follow’ the bird’s line. While it was pure luck, I am happy to have spent some time with this beautiful black-winged stilt.
Wishing you a very Happy New Year.

      Best wishes,
      Takami

  3. Lovely shot, Takami. Black-winged Stilts are very, very rare in the UK, although are perhaps slightly more common now than when I began birdwatching several decades ago. One famous bird (who was nicknamed Sammy the Stilt) stayed at a reserve in the east of England for 12 years, dying in 2005. Mrs P and I went to see him once, and got good views. Here is a link to a newspaper article about him https://www.express.co.uk/comment/columnists/stuart-winter/832056/Obituary-bird-nature-Sammy-black-winged-stilt

Best wishes for a Happy New Year!

    • Thank you, Mr. Platypus Man!
So happy you liked this Black-winged Stilt, and many thanks for sharing the article.
They were also very rare in Japan until the fairly recently. As you can imagine, they were a “birdwatcher’s dream” and spotting one was a real exciting moment.

We are very blessed that a few of them decided to make their “home” at a nature/bird sanctuary near the Tokyo bay area. It’s always a real joy and pleasure to see them with their distinctive calls and pink legs 🙂

Sammy the Stilt must have been a very charming and much admired black-winged stilt. I am sorry and sad that he passed away, but it seemed he was much loved and had an overall happy life. I am glad conservation efforts are showing positive results in the area too.

My husband and I give you and Mrs. Platypus Man our best wishes for a Happy New Year too! 🙂

      • Interesting that Stilts are recent arrivals both in the UK and Japan. Perhaps this is the impact of climate change / global warming?

I look forward to learning more about Japanese birds from your blog. And thank you for the very kind things you said about my blogs in your other message to me; it is inspiring to know that what I write – and Mrs P’s photos, of course – is of interest to people like yourselves on the other side of the planet. Best wishes to you both.

        • We feel that it is definitely an impact of global warming. And it seems we’re not alone…
I’ll do my best to spread the love for our avian friends, and with it, a greater appreciation for nature and our fellow humans too 🙂

    • Thank you, kind Sir!
I am very happy to read a comment from you.
Wishing you and your family and blessed and healthy, happy 2020.
